Eligible Lists

A Civil Service eligible list is a ranked list of candidates who have successfully passed a civil service examination and are eligible for appointment to a specific position. Candidates are listed in order of their exam scores, with higher-scoring individuals ranked at the top. Employers use the eligible list to fill vacancies by selecting candidates based on their rank and other applicable hiring rules, such as veterans' preferences or residency requirements. Lists are typically valid for a set period, often 1-4 years, depending on the jurisdiction.
